In reply to Anonymous. Hey Andrie, you still have to pay admission to visit the Pena Palace terrace, but it's a cheaper ticket than paying for the castle admission. Hope that helps!

I’m confused on the order that you did things. At first you said your first stop was Quinta de Regaleira and you opted to walk there, right? But later, Pena is the first stop and Quinta de Regaleira is after that. Asking because the walks from the station are quite different and I’m not sure what order to do things. The walk to Quinta de Regaleira looks fairly easy and we could do the city center first, but the walk to Pena is 55 minutes and strenuous, up hill. I’m thinking I want to take a bus from the station to Pena first thing. Is Pena what you walked to? Did you take any buses? I’m just trying to figure out the most logical way for us without strenuous steep climbs. Thanks for your help!

Hi I just loved your easy to read guide to Sintra. I never heard of it before my husband booked a tour guide and a bus for 8 senior citizen friends. As I look at the steps and hilly nature of the place I am wondering if my group can withstand going to so many places in one day. What would be your recommendation concerning the physical nature of your prescribed adventure. Is there a way to get to the top of each castle with public transportation and how far apart are the castles from each other. Every step counts, we are between 70 and 78 years young. Loved your photos! I went to Sintra in 2019 and vowed that I’d return! Which is what I’m doing in May of this year, I cannot wait. I stayed in Sintra for two nights in 2019 and again plan to do so again this year as it’s such a pretty town, lots to see and do and it’s always nice to be there in the evenings when the crowds have dissipated. I visited all of the castles and may return to a couple but I also plan to do more walking in the woods surrounding the area (with a guide)…

Great guide and I have been looking for a walking guide! Thanks. What do you think about doing the tour in reverse, taking a taxi to Pena Palace, allowing early access to the Palace then walking in your tour in reverse????
